Local Middle School Students Volunteer during United Way’s Junior Day of Caring

As part of Greater Ottawa County United Way’s Annual Junior Day of Caring, nearly 500 students from White Pines Intermediate School removed invasive species and trash from local parks during the week of April 22 – April 26. United Way Vice President of Volunteer Engagement Shannon LaHaie said, "United Way is proud to be able to offer middle school students the opportunity to give back to their community. This experience allows students to develop leadership and volunteer skills while making our local parks more beautiful. We are also thankful for our partnership with Grand Haven Area Public Schools, which makes this opportunity possible.”

On Friday, May 3, approximately 500 eighth grade students from Lakeshore Middle School will volunteer at more than 25 local nonprofit organizations and parks as part of their Junior Day of Caring. They will help out with tasks such as spring cleaning and landscaping, giving middle school tours and spending time with senior citizens.

Support for the Junior Day of Caring student transportation was provided by a grant from the Friends of Ottawa County Parks.
