Earlier this year, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced the awards for this year’s Continuum of Care (CoC) program grants. $2 billion will be distributed to more than 7,300 local homeless housing and service programs across the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The CoC grants will help end homelessness and provide critically needed support to local programs on the front lines of serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
Ottawa County will receive more than $1 million of the HUD CoC grants for permanent supportive housing, rapid re-housing and supportive services. Funds have been awarded to existing housing programs at the Center for Women in Transition, Community Mental Health, and Good Samaritan Ministries. Greater Ottawa County United Way will also receive funds to support the work of the Lakeshore Housing Alliance.
The Lakeshore Housing Alliance (LHA) is a collaboration of human service agencies, community members and local businesses dedicated to identifying needs, developing a vision, encouraging coordination of responses, and advocating for safe, accessible, affordable housing and services in the Ottawa County area. The LHA is a program of Greater Ottawa County United Way.
