Lakeshore Housing Alliance seek volunteers for Point-In-Time Homeless Count

Each year on the last Wednesday in January, Greater Ottawa County United Way’s Lakeshore Housing Alliance (LHA) program conducts a Point-in-Time Count of people experiencing homelessness in Ottawa County. The Point-in-Time Count is a snapshot of homelessness, helping to produce an estimate of the total number of individuals living unsheltered in our area annually.

One of the components of the Point-in-Time Count is a street count, where the LHA partners with local community members, law enforcement and housing service providers to identify people who are living in places not meant for human habitation.

The LHA is seeking volunteers for the Street Count, which will take place on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 from 9:30pm -1:00am. Volunteers can choose one of two meeting locations in Ottawa County. In Northern Ottawa County, volunteers will meet at The Momentum Center, 714 Columbus Ave, Grand Haven. In Southern Ottawa County, volunteers will meet at Community Action House, 345 W. 14th St., Holland. Groups of 3-4 volunteers will be given maps of the county, indicating locations where person living unsheltered may be found. Training will be provided beforehand.
