Campaign Awards Announced!

Above and Beyond Award

Lori Ann Horan, Human Resources/Safety Manager at Stanco Metals in Grand Haven the 2020 recipient of United Way's Above and Beyond Award. Each year United Way identifies a person who has gone above and beyond what is expected of a campaign coordinator and who helps others understand the importance of United Way. Lori would have been honored at our Celebration dinner in March which was canceled due to the COVID crisis.

"People can make an impact, don't think that you can't. Anything you do can help." Lori lived her words when she took charge of the United Way campaign at Stanco, even though her personal life wasn't exactly easy at the time. Shortly before the campaign kicked off, one of Loris's two daughters was in an accident which resulted in a traumatic brain injury. Kaitlin was in a coma for two months, paralyzed, and could not speak. Lori felt she needed the day to day work to be her stability during Kaitlin's recovery and returned to work, to run Stanco's United Way campaign. Lori's efforts and the generosity of Stanco's employees resulted in a community benefit of over $43,000, impacting thousands of lives!
Lori says "being able to see results, seeing smiles; being able to help, that's' what impact means to me. I help out where I can and work to give others that same opportunity."
Today, Lori says that Katlin is coming along beautifully, although she is paralyzed on one side, "Katlin is a miracle".  Lori credits her strong faith in giving her the perseverance she needed for herself and her family.
Thank you, Lori!
